Usage :
ZnS have a broad transmission spectrum in the IR, especially in the LWIR / Thermal infrared, and can be used as an alternative to Germanium in certain IR applications.
ZnS is a rather soft material, adding a Diamond Like Carbon (DLC) layer on one surface help protect this layer from outside wearing while having virtually no negative on it’s transmission on IR spectrum.
